Born in Oak Park,Illinois,is 1898 anddied in Ketchum,Idaho in 1961.He
served as a Red Cross volunteer during the First World War.He drove
an ambulance and was seriously wounded in Italy.he continued to live
in Europe for many years.He was a journalist in spain during the
Spanish Civil war.Hemingways writing made him very famous and
successful.Despite his sucesses,he became very depresses in his old
age.He was very ill in the 1950 s.He eventually killed himself.
Hemingways writing is very clear.His style is called minimalism
because it uses the minimum of words necessary.Many have copied
his style.It is still very popular.he often wrote about people in difficult
or dangerous situations.His stories rarerly have happy endings.His
chracters display dignity and courage in the face of danger and
defeat.
Hemingways s often criticized because of the way he portrays
women.Women in his stories are often sources of
weakness,temptations,or distress for men.Nonetheless, Hemingways
stories are still very popular and widely read all over the today.

Plot Structure
The shoer story,,cat in the rain was written by Ernest
hemingway in the 1920.It is about an American couple
that spends their holidays in an Italian hotel.It was a
raing day and the American woman saw a cat in the
rain.that she wanted to protect from the rainddrops
when the she wanted to protect from the raindrops when
she went out of the hotel,whish was kept by an old
Italian who really seemed to do averything to please that
woman,and wanted to gets the cat that has gone.After
returning to the hotel room,she strated a conversation
with her husband george who was reading all the
time,telling him how much she wanted to have a cat and
other things for instance her own silker to eat
husband seems to be annoyed by that and
not interested at all.At the end of the sorry there is a
knock on the door and the maid stood?there holding a
cat for the Americanwoman in her hannds.

thought.
Many have interpreted the wifes remarch that she wants
a kitty as symbolic of her desire to have a child.Or
perhars she is already pregnant a just imagining what it
will be like when the baby comes.he woman is
in search of something here companioship attention,love
a sense of belonging a seemigly willing to go to wahtever
extremes to get what the wants.

Point of view
In spite of this we can see that the
reader is invited to imagine the
action in the second-person narrative
there fore,our sympothies as readery
lie with female protagonist who is the
American wife.
