Toy story

Title

The title of the film (Toy

story) is and brilliant title
for a family/ kids film. The
logo itself is affective as it
has nice bubble writing that
is clear and bold with bright
colour like yellow and red to
make the logo stand out.

The title that comes up at the

start of the film is the actual
logo for the film. This is
affective because children
remember a certain logo for
certain things. The yellow
wording has a darker colour
around the outside so you
can see it even in the dark
this is good as it was viewed
it the cinema when it came
out

Genre
The genre of the film is action/ adventure.
This is one of the best genres that attracts
the majority of children.it is adventure in
the way that the film is a journey of good
and bad. It is also action because there is
a lot of cuts building suspense and
tension. In addition it is shown to be a
action because of the fighting and there is
more than one hero. It makes it an action
film as it has stunts. This is affective
because it gives a an exiting and
emotional feeling that keeps you on the
edge of your seat.

Prior to 1953, Walt Disney's productions

were distributed by Columbia Pictures,
United Artists and RKO Radio Pictures.
However, a dispute over the value of
Disney's True-Life Adventures series of liveaction documentary featuretted in 1953 led
to Walt and his older brother Roy Oliver

the Buena Vista Film Distribution
Company, Inc. (BVDC), to handle the U.S.
distribution of their own product. Buena
Vista's first release was the Academy
Awardwinning live-action feature The
Living Desert on November 10, 1953 along
with Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom, Buena

subsequent releases include the foreign

released in US theatres in September 1956,
The Missouri Traveler in March 1958, and
The Big Fisherman in July 1959 (the first
third-party production financed by Disney).

Target
audienc
eThe target audience is the family audience
as is has basic language for kids to
understand, bright colours and friendly
characters with happy positive vibes
almost all the time. There is a clear baddy
so it is easy to follow the story and also
normally has a happy ending like (toy
story). However there is quite dark bits in
the film like when Sid (the bad guy) is
being nasty to the toys . this makes it a
family film because the parent can be
there with the kids when the dark bits are

CINEMATOGRAPHY

The camera
shot types

The opening uses camera shot

types like close up, mid shot
and body shot to create action/
adventure feel.

Toy story uses camera angles like birds

Camer eye view and high angle to create the idea
of the toys being toy sized and the view
a
looking down on the toys as you would do
angle in a child friendly environment. it also uses
s
eye-level so that you can fell like the
character is talking/looking at you.

Camera movement
the camera movements used in the
film are pan and dolly these are both
good camera movements as the pan
shows the whole area of the scene
and dolly as it moves along with the
character.
The audience
Transitions (EDITS)
Within the first few minutes of
the film toy story uses
transitions like cut fade out
and jump cut to create a
quick and eventful scene

The first 5 mins of the

film sets the audience
up for the rest of the
film by having lots of
action and tension in.
also its hook the
reader straight away
because of a lot of
movement.

sound

Diegetic
sound

Toy story's diegetic sound

includes the voices of
characterssounds made by
objects in the storythis creates
a good atmosphere as it makes
the movie sound real . It also
makes the audience feel
involved and part of the film

Nondiegetic
sound
non diegetic
sound includes
sound effects
which is added
for the dramatic
effect and
mood music to
help set the
scene this is
good as it adds
extra tension

Mise-n-scene

The set is very child

friendly with lots of
bright and colourful
rooms however there
are some sets in toy
story that are gloomy
and quite dark.

Andy's house on the

inside is a warm
cosy family home
with lots of modern
elements so it looks
like a new house.

Set and lighting

The living room is

where Andy has his
party it is very comfy
and looks like a nice
family film should be

The pizza planet

set is very bright
lighted and fun for
kids the set
includes arcade
games, party food
and cool rides to
go on while the
pizza is cooking

Costumes
The costumes are quite
simple in which there is
very simple clothing that
the characters where
through out the film. For
example the toys where
the same clothes to
make the film looks real
as real toys do not
change there own
clothes

On the other hand the

human characters do
change clothes as the
film lasts for a few days
and to make it seem
real each day in the
film the characters
have different outfits

Make up
The girl toys have a little
make up on but as it is a
animation no really seen

Prop

Prop

Most of the
characters have a

Acting and dialogue

Key characters
Woody
Buzz
Hamm
Rex
Mr potato head
Bo peep

The opening 5 mins of

the film give the idea
to the views of a
action/adventure film.
In the first five mins
there is a lot of
movement of the
characters and there is
a lot of sound effects
to create a lively vibe

Quotes
somebody do something
bo peep
reach for the sky

BINARY OPPOSITION
I think this whole
film is binary
opposition as it
has the concept of
talking toys and
the aspects of real
life like moving
house and kids
playing with toys.

USES AND
GRATIFICATIONS
THEORY
This theory is the
audience feels involved in
the film e.g. : like one of
the characters

NARRATIVE METAPHOR;
The narrative metaphor in toy
story is about friendship and
dont judge a book by its
cover for example in toy story
woody judges buzz before he
even gets to know him as a
person
