Possible Methods of Implementing a
HSS Review Session at Your School
 Meet as a Department and reach agreements as to
which teachers will lead the grade level content
review sessions
 Identify the group of students that you will target
(Millikan targeted Basic Students to start)
 Decide when the review sessions will take place (e.g.
three weeks prior to CST during Advisory Period)
 Organizing your schedule to move Grade 8 students
through the review sessions
 Conduct content review sessions with students
focusing on high emphasis and medium emphasis
standards
 Work on test taking skills with students

Doing More than Review and Test
Preparation
 HSS Department reviews each PA—break them
down question by question for the purposes of
identifying key concepts, academic vocabulary, and
specific vocabulary with which ELs will struggle
 HSS Department reviews each of the Grade 7 and
Grade 8 Model Lessons—break them down for the
purposes of identifying key concepts, academic
vocabulary, and specific vocabulary with which ELs
will struggle
 Use your findings to inform your instruction
throughout the year

Grades 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11
 Provide CST Released Questions and analysis of
those questions

offer additional access strategies to support ELs
 Lead School Site Department Meetings when
