There were 6840 cases of

Dengue Fever reported (as of


Jan 1-May. 21,2016), with 25
deaths compared to 5383
cases last year.
Based on age, it is most
common among 12 y.o
children while based on
gender , majority of cases
were male.

WHAT IS
DENGUE?
An infectious tropical disease
caused by the dengue virus
transmitted through a bite of
a mosquito from the family of
Aedes.

THE ENEMY
AEDES MOSQUITO

Black and white stripes on its body and legs


Primarily a daytime feeder

Only the female Aedes feeds on blood because

they need the protein found in blood to produce


eggs.
Lay eggs in clean, clear, stagnant water and in
artificial containers.

Strategies to Prevent
Dengue

1. SEARCH AND DESTROY

.Eliminate all possible mosquito breeding

sites (larva survey)


.Clean the surroundings (at least once/mos)

2. SELF-PROTECTION MEASURES

Use mosquito repellent


Wear long sleeves, pants, socks, closed shoes.
Install mesh screens on windows.

3. Seek Early Consultation

If with fever of 2 days duration and


rashes on the skin, go to the
nearest health center or hospital.

4. Say No To Indiscriminate Fogging

This process merely drive away mosquitoes to


other areas.
This is done only when there is an outbreak.
