Select a Buddy

To all new joinees allocate a buddy 7 days prior to joining , ask new joinee to initiate
contact

EOM - HR organised Buddy meet

Each Buddy has a budget of Rs. 500 to take him/her out for Tea / coffee etc outside
office hours
For first 3 months, claimable against bills

Each Buddy submits a report to HR giving a brief of the queries the employee had
( without mentioning the name of the employee) for the HR to improve upon

Why Buddy Program


Buddy program is a tool to accelerate the new employees ability to deal with the early
disconcerting issues. By implementing Buddy Program it is intended that:
1. The new employee feels at home with the company, in a quick process;
2. Straightforward queries regarding basic operational issues are dealt with in a timely
and non-bureaucratic manner;
3. The initial confusion and uncertainty faced by all new employees is reduced;
4. New employees find out how to manage us, the company, in a supportive and riskreduced environment;
5. New employee begins to add value more quickly, leading to increased confidence &
self-esteem;
6. Buddy program provides one-point contact to operationally necessary information.
7. In essence, the development / performance of the individual is not an expected output
from Buddy Program

Who to Select as Buddy


Criteria for Selection of BUDDY
1. Not from new joinees department & will have time to be accessible to the new
employee.
2. Should have been in the company for at least 1 year
3. Has understanding and commitment to the Companys mission, goal and values.
4. Is proud of the organization.
5. Demonstrates high performance.
6. Is a positive role model who is well regarded and accepted by current employees.

Frequency and timing of meetings


1. Buddy must meet the new employee regularly for at least 15-20minutes, once a week
during their first month
2. at least once a month thereafter.
3. This meeting is often best conducted over lunch or in an informal setting, and used to
discuss any non-urgent issues the new employee may have.
4. During the working day, it may be reasonable to expect as many as3 - 5 brief queries a
day from the new employee in the first few days, reducing down to one or two a day
thereafter.
5. Although every new employees is different, however after 2-3months, you may hear
little or nothing from them on a daily basis. IT WILL BE A GOOD SIGN.
