DEFINITION :
Diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous group of
disorders characterized by an increase in blood
glucose levels, or hyperglycemia. (Brunner and
Suddarth, 2002).
ETIOLOGY
A. Diabetes type I:
1. Factor Genetic
Diabetics do not inherit type diabetes itself;
but inherited a predisposition or genetic
tendency toward diabetes mellitus type I.
2. Factors Immunological
The existence of an autoimmune response
which is an abnormal response in which
antibodies directed to normal tissue of the
body by way of reacting to these networks are
considered as if they were foreign tissue. Ie
autoantibodies against islet cells of Langerhans
and endogenous insulin.
3. Environmental factor
Virus or certain toxins can trigger an
autoimmune process that causes destruction
selbeta.
