Our SITUATION
LeaguetownHighSchool,locatedinWestTexas,has700
studentsenrolledingrades912.EveryyearinMay,theschoolhostsan
awardsceremonyduringthedaytohonorparticularstudents.Usually
about200to250studentsearnhonorseveryyear.Theceremonytakes
aboutanhourandahalfandtheentireschoolattends.Lastyear,several
studentshadtobeescortedoutofthegymfordisruptivebehavior.This
year,PrincipalFlorJimenezproposedmovingtheawardsceremonyto
theeveningsomoreparentsandcommunitymemberscanattend.Onlya
handfulofparentsattendedtheassemblylastyear.
Severalteacherscomplainedthatmovingtheceremonytothe
eveningisnotfairtothembecausetheydonotreceiveextrapayfor
workingextrahours.TheParentTeacherAssociationpresidentLinda
Fowlersaidshesupportsthemovebecauseitwillallowparentstosee
theirchildrenreceivetheirawards.
