Apply and communicate understanding of the

importance of diversity and difference in shaping
life experiences in practice at the micro, mezzo,
and macro levels
Robeson County is very diverse and it is important to not
discriminate among families cultures and way of living. By
doing home visits I have learned that people have
different ways of living and parenting style. That does not
mean that one particular way is better than the other.
Understanding the importance of diversity will give you
and your client a chance at developing a healthy working
relationship at all levels of practice.

. Present themselves as learners and engage clients and

constituencies as experts of their own experiences.

When working with clients, it is important to not come off

as a know it all. The client may get the feeling that you are
talking down to them, which may cause them to shut
down. It can negatively impact your working relationship.
For example I work with children that have experienced
severe trauma and I havent so I let them educate me on
their experiences and emotions.

Apply self-awareness and self-regulation to manage

the influence of personal biases and values in
working with diverse clients and constituencies.
I make sure that my personal biases do not influence my
work with my families and children. I always try to see
stuff in a positive way and do not judge others because I
may have a different way of doing stuff.
