So many imports and exports going on all over the
world, the shipping industry is one that is quite
massive.
With over 50,000+(larger than 100 tonnes) ships of
different types, shipping industry is described as LIFE
BLOOD OF THE GLOBAL ECONOMY.
With major changes from 90's, Shipping is the least
environmentally damaging form of trade now.

Ocean Freight vs Air

Freight
Capacity - This is not the category that really suits
airplanes. However, cargo ships can carry really
massive amounts of cargo of any shape or size.
Costs - Air freight is the most expensive in this game,
ocean fright takes the exactly opposite side on the
matter of money required.
Speed - Ships have a lot of distance to cover and it
takes them quite a while to do so.

The Shipbuilding and Offshore industry constantly tips to a side of higher

efficiency backed by continual efforts of researchers from 30+
universities through innovative solutions to the most pressing problems.

About the Department

Being the first of its kind in the country, the
department was established in 1952.
During the years of its existence, the department
has made significant contributions to the Indian
navy, Coastal Guard, DRDO and other domestic as
well as international organizations.

The department and its alumni have important and

strategic links with universities around the world and
major shipyards and organizations of various other
kinds in our country and abroad.

NAROES - Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
Society
NAROES is a departmental society consisting all the
professors and students of the department.

What we do?
Samudra Manthan - annual technical meet with
nationwide participation.
Organizing various seminars and programs throughout
the year.

Samudramanthan, a two day event comprising
of a number of mind churning challenges as well
as several informative guest lectures and
workshops.
