Computer Aided Design

Chapter 1: Introduction
PREfER

Objectives

Define Computer Aided Design; CAD

Computer-aided design (CAD) can be most
simply described as using the computer in the
design process.

Classifications of CAD systems

1. By Modeling Method
CAD systems are able to do modeling in several
ways: 2-D drawing, wireframe modeling, surfacing
modeling, solid modeling and also feature-based
modeling.
2. By Analysis
Engineering analyses commonly conducted on a
design include finite-element analysis (FEA),
volume and weight calculations, and circuit analysis
and simulation.

Classifications of CAD systems

3. By Kinematics
Since the existence of the CAD systems, every
movement of the model can be simulated based on
the requirement of the analysis without ease.
