CONTINOUS TIME FILTER

THEORY
Linear filter
Frequency dependent processing

on continuous time signals.

Ideal lowpass filter
All linear filters are characterised
by 3 properities:
Passband ripple
Transition frequency
Stopband gain

T(J0))-gain of filter at w=0

wPB = passband frequency
wSB = stopband frequency

The magnitude of normalization

The frequency can be

normalised
Normalized low pass transfer function

Upper frequency of passband=1

Lower frequency of stopband=Wsb/wpb
Gain or attenuation can

be used for defining filter

Specifications
The process of filter design begins by
approximation.

Approximations:

Butterworth approximation
Chebyshev approximation

Butterworth approximation
The magnitude is maximally flat a low

frequencies(w0) and monotocally roll off

to a value approaching zero at high
frequency(winfinity)

The magnitude

N =order of filter approximation

The magnitude of butterworth at wsb =0

Rewritten as

CHEBYSHEV APPROXIMATION
Equal ripples in passband and monotonic

outside passband
The magnitude of chebyshev low pass filter

E determines the width of passband ripple
