be transmitted via email, letter, report,

Advantages
Messages can be edited and revised

and backup.

fully understand it and send appropriate

Nonverbal
Nonverbal communication is the sending
or receiving of wordless messages. Such
asgesture,body language,
posture,tone of voiceorfacial
expressions, is called nonverbal
communication.
Nonverbal communication is all
about the body language of speaker.
Nonverbal communication have the
following three elements
Appearance
Speaker clothing, hairstyle, neatness,
use of cosmetics
Surrounding room size, lighting,
decorations, furnishings
Body Language
facial expressions, gestures, postures
Sounds
Voice Tone, Volume, Speech rate

Levels of

Intrapersonal Communication is
communication that occurs in your own
mind. It is the basis of your feelings, biases,
prejudices, and beliefs.
Examples are when you make any kind
of decision what to eat or wear. When
you think about something what you
want to do on the weekend or when you
think about another person.

Interpersonal communication is the


communication between two people but
can involve more in informal conversations.
Examples are when you are talking to
your friends. A teacher and student
discussing an assignment. A patient
and a doctor discussing a treatment. A
manager and a potential employee
during an interview.

Others forms of Communication


Centralised Communication: It is a
communication network which is mediated by a
central person or a central unit.
Decentralised Communication:
Communication in a communication network
which is not mediated by a central person or a
central unit.
Multi channel Communication:
Communication involving several modalities

Small Group communication is communication within formal or


informal groups or teams. It is group interaction that results in decision
making, problem solving and discussion within an organization.
Examples would be a group planning a surprise birthday party for
someone. A team working together on a project.

One-to-group communication involves a speaker who


seeks to inform, persuade or motivate an audience.
Examples are a teacher and a class of students. A
preacher and a congregation. A speaker and an
assembly of people in the auditorium.

Mass communication is
the electronic or print
transmission of messages
to the general public.
Outlets called mass media
include things like radio,
television, film, and
printed materials designed
to reach large audiences.
A television commercial. A
magazine article. Hearing a
song on the radio. Books,
Newspapers, Billboards. The
key is that you are reaching a
large amount of people
without it being face to face.
Feedback is generally delayed
with mass communication.

Communications through posture,
gesture, stance, and movement.

Pointing: In the United States, pointing is to indicate or "come here please.


But pointing with one finger is also considered to be rude by some cultures.
Those from Asian cultures typically use their entire hand to point to something.

Sticking your tongue out: In Western countries, it can be seen as mockery,


but in Polynesia it serves as a greeting and a sign of reverence

Clapping: In North American it is a way of applauding, but in Spain is used to


summon a waiter at a restaurant.

Nodding and shaking the head to indicate agreement and


disagreement: Northern Europeans nodding their heads up and down to say
"yes", and shaking their head from side to side to say "no".
But the Greeks have for at least three thousand years used the upward nod for
disagreement and the downward nod for agreement.

Waving goodbye: Americans face the palm outward and move the hand side
to side, Italians face the palm inward and move the fingers facing the other
person, French and Germans face the hand horizontal and move the fingers

Proxemics Communication

Proxemics is the study of the cultural, behavioural, and sociological


aspects of spatial distances between individuals

a. Intimate Zone(from 6 to 18 inches): This is the zone a person


guards as individual property. Onlyromantic partner,close friends
and relatives are allowed to enter in it.
b. Personal Zone(from 18 to 48 inches): This is the distance we
keep from others during friendly interactions, social gatherings or
parties.
c. Public Zone(from 4 to 12 feet): This is the distance we keep
from strangers or persons with little acquaintance.
d. Social Zone(above 12 feet): This is the comfortable distance we
maintain while interacting or addressing to large group of people.

The way in which one perceives and valuestime, structures


time, and reacts to time frames communication.

Time perception plays a large role in the nonverbal


communication process.

Time perceptions includepunctuality, willingness to wait, and


interactions.

The use of time can affect life


style, daily agendas, speed of
speech, movements, and how
long people are willing to listen.
