This document defines a function generator as an instrument that can generate voltage waveforms such as sine, square, or triangle waves over a frequency range from 0.1 Hz to 13 GHz. It then discusses the HP 3312A function generator, noting that its output voltage can be varied from 0 to 10 V peak-to-peak into a 50 ohm load across four voltage ranges and its DC offset can be adjusted within ±10 V using the front panel offset control.

OUTPUT LEVEL
THE OUTPUT VOLTSGE CAN BE VARIED FROM 0
TO 10 V peak to peak IN TO 50 OHM IN FOUR VOLTAGE RANGE. THE DC LEVEL OF THE MAIN GENERATOR OUTPUT CAN BE ADJUSTED WITHIN THE RANGE OF 10 VOLTS USING THE FRONT PANEL OFFSET CONTROL. (WITH THE OFFSET IN CALL POSITION, THE DCOFFSET IS ELIMINATED)
