Induced breeding

Induced breeding is an optimal

effort to produce fish fry without
considering the season. This
technique is used to produce fry of
fish species that have or potentially
have great economic significance for
aquaculture, which do not
reproduces spontaneously in
captivity.

Induced spawning in
prawns

Capture of fully matured and

impregnated spawners from the wild
and spawn them in the hatchery.
Procure adult immature females
from the sea and induce them to
mature through eyestalk abalation.
Mature and spawn adult shrimp that
have been reared in captivity.

Induced spawning
Eyestalk abalation-In eyestalk
abalation either one or both the
eyestalks are abalated-unilateral or
bilateral abalation.
Change in pH and temperature of
the medium.
Selection of females
Hard shelled healthy intermoult
female free from disease and injury100gms

Unilateral eyestalk
abalation

Cutting complete removal of

eyestalk using a sharp instrument.
Incision and pinching-incision on
eyeball and squeezing the contents
of eyeball.
Electrocauterisation-cutting the
eyestalk using courtery apparatusminimum stress.
Stocking-maturation tanks-unablated
males @4 no/m2 f:m ratio 2:1-best
mating success.

Eyestalk&thoracic ganglion
X organs
Neurohormones
GIH (gonad inhibiting hormone)-stored
in sinus glands-secreted by X organ
GIH- active in estuarine and captive
condition prevent maturation
Removal of eye stalk-reduce GIH-induce
maturation and spawning.

Monitoring of spawners

Ovarian development-monitored-night,
dawn-underwater light-3 days after
abalation.
Mature females-ovaries dark green in
colour-visible at the first abdominal
segment.
Treated with 50ppm formalin for 1hour.
Abalated shrimp mature and spawn 3-5
times during intermoult period and
remain productive for 50-60 days.
Fecundity-2,00,000 to 10,00,000 eggshatching2-17 hours.

Seed Production
Rearing of brooders
Injecting the brooders using inducing
agent
Spawning
Rearing of spawn to fry
Preparation of breeders for artificial
propagation
Mature male and female:2-3 kg
Free flowing milt and bulging abdomen with
free flowing eggs.-brooder net nylon 100%
double knotted- mesh size 1

Induced breeding in
carps

Hypophyzation/linpe method
Injecting carp with pituitary
extracts/pituitary glands
collected/dosagevaries/ Female8-12
mg/kg male- 2-3mg/kg/
1 female:2 males/ one third dose for
female as provocative dose and
remaining two third as effective dose
6 hrs after the first injection. Male at
the time of 2nd dose to the female.
