Types of Cells

7TH GRADE SCIENCE

Expectations

Standard :7.L.3A.2 Analyze and interpret data from observations

to describe different types of cells and classify cells as plant,
animal, protist, or bacteria.

Students will be able to:

Organize cells by type

Define the differences between cells

Discuse the different types of cells

Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells

Prokaryotic
Cells
Usually unicellular

Eukaryotic Cells

Often times contains very few

organelles

Does not have nucleus

Usually multicellular

Are often types of Bacteria.

Contains multiple organelles

Has a nucleus

Has multiple chromosomes

Often Animal and Plant cells

How to determine a cell is a

Prokaryotic cells

Prokaryotic cells are unicellular,

meaning it survives with only
one cell

They are often structured in a

way that make the cell look like
a pill

The cell does not have a

nucleus, thus allowing the
chromosomes to move freely

Prokaryotic have little to no

organelles.

They also a a flagellum which

helps the cell move.

How to determine a cell is a

Eukaryotic Cell

Eukaryotic cells are

multicellular, meaning there
are many in organism.

Eukaryotic cells have some

form of a cell membrane

They will have multiple

organelles housed inside of
its cytoplasm

All Eukaryotic cells have a

nucleus that holds all the
genetic information for the
cell

Eukaryotic Cells: Plants Cells Vs.

Animal Cells
Plant Cells:

Square shaped cell due to the

rugged tough cell wall
Uses photosynthesis to create
food for the cell
Contains chloroplast which helps
with food, but also turns cell
green
Contains many of the same
organelles as Animal cells

Animal Cells:

Round or oval shaped cell

Creates food for the cell through

cellular respiration

Cellular respiration occurs in the

mitochondria

Does not have a cell wall

Does have the almost all the

same organelles as Plant cells
