CHAPHEKAR WADA

LOCATION :Karntivir Chaphekar Smruti Samiti Karntitrtha

Chaphekar wada,opp. Ram mandir,chinchwad pune

This is Chaphekar Wada, a

museum dedicated to four Indian
freedom fighters who enjoy the dubious
reputation of killing two British officers
due to their high handedness in dealing
with a plague epidemic in Poona in 1897.
Though not the noblest of things to do,
they are held in high esteem by the locals
due to their patriotism and love for the
country. While two of the four Chaphekar
brothers were convicted and hanged for
murder, the other two were later hanged
for the murder of the informant and for
conspiracy.

Chaphekar wada

Chaphekar Wada
The Chaphekar Wada was apparently lying in
ruins for several decades. The derelict structure
had become the den for anti socials and
drunkards until someone realized that this was
not doing justice to the four freedom fighters.
The Government then stepped in to restore the
derelict structure and return it to its formal
glory.

A frieze near the entrance honours for four Chaphekar

brothers ; Damodar Hari Chaphekar, Balkrishna Hari
Chaphekar , Vasudev Hari Chaphekar and Ranade who
were involved in the assassination of W.C. Rand, the British
Plague Commissioner of Pune under the influence of
Lokmanya Tilak.
