Vassily Kandinsky (1866 1944) was an influential Russian painter

and art theorist. He is credited with painting one of the first purely
abstract works (Miller, 2015).

Frank Stella (born 1936) is an American painter and printmaker, celebrated for his
work in the areas of minimalism and post-painterly abstraction.Stella is acclaimed
for creating abstract paintings that bear no pictorial illusions or psychological or
metaphysical references in twentieth-century painting (Miller, 2015)

Jackson Pollock (1912 1956) was a highly influential American painter

and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was closely
identified with his unique style of drip painting (Miller, 2015).

Joan Mir (1893 1983) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist. Receiving international
acclaim, his work has been variously described as Abstract Art, Surrealism, a sandbox for the
subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a showcase of Catalan pride (Miller, 2015)

Mark Rothko (1903 1970), was an

American painter of Russian Jewish
descent. Although Rothko himself
refused to align with any art
movement, he is usually considered an
Abstract Expressionist. Together with
Jackson Pollock and Willem de
Kooning, he is one of the most famous
and critically admired postwar
American artists (Miller, 2015).
