EMOTIONAL

1. Chest problems such as pain, heart palpitations, and heart disease
2. Aches and pains in the body, including headache, back pains, and
upset stomach
3. Problems with sleep, such as waking up in the night and not being
able to fall back asleep

5. Diarrhea or constipation
6. Nausea, dizziness
7. Loss of sex drive
8. Frequent colds or flu

COGNITIVE
1. Memory problems
2. Inability to concentrate
3. Poor judgment
4. Seeing only the negative
5. Anxious or racing thoughts
6. Constant worrying

BEHAVIORAL
1. Eating more or less
2. Sleeping too much or too little
3. Withdrawing from others
4. Procrastinating or neglecting responsibilities
5. Using alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs to relax
6. Nervous habits (e.g. nail biting, pacing)

BIOCHEMICAL
Thebiochemical response to stress is to increase the production
of the stress hormones cortisol and plasma lactate. This overproduction ofcortisol and plasma lactate can cause insomnia,
headaches and raise blood pressure.

The responses:
1. can increased catecholamines
2. increased corticotropin
3. over-produce cortisol
4. return to baseline levels when the challenge disappears
