Childhood
Jackie Chan was born to a poversh family.
He cared immensely about grades & education
Born in Hong Kong, he weighed 12 pounds, and
was nicknamed Paopao, meaning cannonball.

He originally spoke Cantonese.
His father, Charles Chan, was a cook for the French
Ambassador.
His mother, Lee Lee Chan, was the housekeeper for
that same ambassador.

He attended the Nan-Hwa ( ) Primary School.
But he wasnt doing very well in the school so he was sent to the
Peking Opera School
He noted that felt as if he was going into Disneyland when he
first entered the building.

He now speaks 7 languages, but is not able to read or write
efficiently so he has others write his scripts for him
After a while, he realized that the school had kids practice
music, acrobatics, and martial arts for at least 18 hours in one
day.
They were also often beat especially for poor performance.

When he entered, his father went to work in the Chinese
embassy and after a few years, his mother left to join his
father in Australia.

Early Filming Career


After 10 years, he graduated in 1971.
He found work as an acrobat and as a stuntman.
One of the movies he stunted in was Fist of Fury in 1972,
alongside Bruce Lee, a famous Chinese action star.

In that movie, he took the longest fall in the history of the
chinese film industry.
Because of this, he caught the eye of Lee and others in the
filmmaking industry.

Filming in China
After Bruce Lees death in 73, he was named as the likely
successor of Bruce Lee.
With that idea in mind, he worked in a plethora of kung fu
movies with Lo Wei.
Most of the movies turned out to be unsuccessful and the
partnership with Lo Wei ended by the late 70s.

During that time, he decided that he wanted to created his
own type of movie, rather than just the successor to
Bruce Lee.
He also always insisted on performing his own stunts.
His first movie was Snake in the Eagles Shadow, in which
he did his own stunts.

After that movie, he created the first kung fu comedy, called Drunken
Master.
After that, he released The Fearless Hyena, Half a Loaf of Kung Fu,
and the Young Master.
These movies had given Chan his fame.
Not long after, Chan had become an international star all throughout
Asia.

In most of his films, he had total control, in which he took
the jobs of producing, director, and singing the theme
songs, (Mulan).
He eventually tried to make movies in Hollywood, but
produced little fame.
He starred in the Big Brawl, and had a supporting role in
the Cannonball Run.

Empire in China
He still gained more fame during the 1980s because he produced
more Kung Fu comedies such as Project A, Police Story,
and Armor of God.
By 1961, he wasnt just an actor, he was one-man film industry.
He had gotten a lot of practice from taking total control of the
films.

In 1986, he found his own production company called Golden
way.
He also created a modeling agency, Jackies Angels, in order to
get actors/actresses for his movies.
After the filming of Police Story, so many men were injured,
they refused to ever work with Jackie Chan again.

He found the Jackie Chan Stuntmen Association, where the
members would be trained personally and he paid their
medical bills.
Chan says to have broken all of his bones multiple times while
filming.
In the 90s, he tried to widen his abilities, making the dramatic
film called the Crime Story.

In America
In 95, he made his own comic book and his own character
called Jackie Chans Spartan X.
Also in 95, Quentin Tarantino presented Jackie Chan with
a Lifetime Achievement Award and threatened to
boycott the ceremony if Chan did not accept.
In 96 New Line Cinema and Golden Harvest jointly
released Rumble in the Bronx, his fifth English movie.

In America (cont.)
Chans first big hit in the United States was Rush Hour, in 1998,
which Chris Tucker.
In the movie, he plays a Chinese police officer who is partnered with
a street-smart LA cop, who is played by Chris Tucker.
After that, he starred the in movie called Shanghai Noon, which takes
places in the Old west and stars Owen Wilson as well as Lucy Liu

The next year, he teamed up with Tucker once again in order to make
Rush Hour 2, which earned $15 million.
In 2002, Chan starred with Jennifer Love Hewitt in the movie, the
Tuxedo, which is about a taxi driver who has special powers, only
when he puts on his bosss tux.
Also in 2002, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and
received the Taurus Award for the best action movie star during the
World Stunt Award ceremony.

A few of his other recent films are Shanghai Knights, New
Police Story, the Myth, and The Spy Next Door, with Billy
Ray Cyrus.
In addition, with cooperation with Disney, he co-starred with
Steve Coogan in the movie called Around the World in 80
Days, as Passepartout.
Later in 2004, he pleased his original fanbase by remaking the
Police Story called New Police Story.

He also recreated the movie The Myth in 2005.

Jackie Chan is also a well known philanthropist.
He donates to causes involved with conservation, animal
treatment, and disaster relief.
In 2006, he stated that he will donate half of his money towards
charity after his death.

He also has one son named Jaycee Chen and is married to Lin FengChiao.
He is also a talented singer. He is a well known singer in China.
He sang in the 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony called Beijing
Welcomes you and sang the song Ill Make A Man Out of You
in both Cantonese and Chinese.

He also sings the theme songs for films such as Rush
Hour and the Beauty and the Beast
In addition, co-starring with famous Taiwanese singer,
Wakin Chau ( ), sang the theme song for the
Movie, Zodiac.

Recent News
His son was caught doing drugs and was sentenced to 6 months
in prison from a Beijing court.
Jaycee Chan, his son, pleaded guilty to hosting others to take
drugs and having more than 100 grams of marijuana in his
house and testing positive for having marijuana in his system.
He was also fined 2000 ($320 USD).

Recent News (cont.)


He said, when questioned, I committed a crime and deserve to
be punished.
Jackie Chan, when questioned, responded with I failed to
discipline him -- now the state is helping me to discipline him
and make him get rid of all the bad habits.
