Job Outlook
Expected to grow 32% by 2005; training will be the fastest
growing specialized area
The market in HRM is competitive
Vast majority of organizations do not recruit on college
campuses for HR openings; companies often seek people
who are mature and experienced professionals, often
promoting from within the organization (SHRM)
NETWORKING is critical in this field
Some large companies recruit recent HR graduates for their
training programs. Promotion into HR from there is possible.
Many women succeed in this field; many advance into top
management positions

More on the HRM Job Outlook

Human resource managers are employed in nearly all kinds of
business enterprises and government agencies
The total number employed in 1980 was between 50,000 and
60,000
Well over half this number are employed by private firms while
the second largest number is employed by federal, state, and
local government agencies
In addition, a number of human resource managers are
employed in college and universities
Although the competition for the trainee is likely to be keen in
many parts of the country, employment prospects are best for
college graduates with specialized training
Generally, employment in human resources work is expected to
expand rapidly as companies grow in size and realize the
importance of human resources
