Basic Oxygen Steelmaking 70%

iron and 30% recycled steel are
mixed with other alloys in the 300tonne basic oxygen steelmaking
furnace to create the metallurgical
qualities which suit the customers'
end use requirements. The molten
metal is then shipped to Dofasco's
Ladle Metallurgy Facility.

The KOBM Stream uses primarily

iron ore, coal, and limestone as
feed materials; as contrasted to
the EAF Stream produces steel
mostly from recycled scrap.

Electric Arc Furnace

Electric Arc Furnace (EAF)
Steelmaking The Electric Arc
Furnace uses from 70 to 100%
recycled steel as its raw
material (as contrasted to the
Basic oxygen stream which
uses primarily iron ore, coal,
and limestone). Dofasco has
the flexibility to add molten
iron to increase quality or as a
substitute, when availability
of recycled steel is low

Steel rolled
The material is rolled
at around 900 degrees
This is known as hot
rolling.
