1. DRAW THE PROCESS FLOWCHART, INCLUDING PROCESSING

TIMES AND CAPACITIES FOR EACH WORKING ACTIVITY.

2. WHAT IS THE #1 COMPETITIVE PRIORITY FOR

THIS HOSPITAL PHARMACY PROCESS?

Incorporating the latest technology to automate its

system and adopting a business process
management approach. It can help improve its
current pharmacy process without increasing their
expenses. If the process is automated, order
prescriptions can be directed to the network and
the system determines duplications, allergic
reactions and other relative information.

PRESCRIPTION FROM A TO Z OR CAN

THESE TASKS BE ASSIGNED TO
DIFFERENT PHARMACISTS?
No. Efficiency will increase if there are 5 pharmacists on
duty are working simultaneously on 5 different
prescriptions. ????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4. DOES THIS PROCESS HAVE TO BE ORGANIZED IN

SERIES? OR IN PARALLEL? HOW AND WHY EXPLAIN.

5. WHERES THE BOTTLENECK IN YOUR

PROCESS DESIGN? EXPLAIN.
As the entire process is an assembly line
process(back to back activity), only after completing
one step can we begin the next step. So here the
bottle-necking activity is including and attaching
proper labels to bottles which consumes 4.5 mins
and the time consumed on this activity cannot be
reduced. As a result the next activity which is
storing the prescriptions becomes the starving
activity.

6. HOW CAN SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY

HELP ENSURE QUALITY?
The company must consider incorporating the latest
technology to automate its system. Investing on
automation would mean increasing expenses for
acquiring the latest technology, however, this would
improve the process and lessen the labor hours. Accuracy
will be improved as well. I therefore recommend that the
Gifford hospital should conduct a comparative study on
cost of automation as opposed to the manpower hours
involved in the pharmacy process. Accuracy, speed and
costs effectiveness must all be considered. A good
automated pharmacy process will not only establish
competitive edge but it will also decrease the labor costs
of the hospital.
