Project Description
In recent years, process automation has being used in
various industrial plants especially, Distributed Control System
(DCS) is more popular than any other control systems in the
modern industrial processes. The current research project is
based on the construction of DCS based clay brick molding
process system. In this research, the simulation of the overall
process will be conducted in real-time condition by using
MATLAB software

Existing System

Existing techniques for molding in

Pakistan are:

By hand
Through molding plant

Problem Statement
Main problems of controlling plant manually are
It decrease the efficiency of plant by increasing
process time
Increase labor cast which increase final product
cost
Error detection in the plant is very difficult

Objective
Main objective of the research is:
To develop the Real Time Graphical User Interface
Monitoring and Controlling System for the
research project based on the construction of DCS
system of clay brick molding process.

Literature Review
Best automation system for this project
Identify those areas where controls will be applied in
the plant

Best suitable controller for the projects

Appropriate software selection to design the system

Controller Description
Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) will be use in this projects
as main controller.
Some Advantages of using PLC in process control systems are

Its quick and easy to reprogram a PLC

Low power consumption
Programmed using Ladder logic which is easy to understand
Specially designed for industrial automation

Proposed Methodology
Clay measuring system:

belt weigher will be use between crusher and box feeder to measure the
quantity of clay.

Automatic water control system:

PLC control system, through belt weigher will measure the real-time flow of
clay powders, the water quantity will change automatically according to
powder quantity.

Pressure monitoring system:

pressure sensor will use to measure the pressure and alarm system to monitor
pressure. Alarm will turn ON if pressure increase or decrease from required
limit.

Strip length control:

timer will be use to change the length of strip according to requirement.

Distribution Control System:

in MATLAB main GUI window will design to Control and monitoring the
complete clay brick molding line.

Proposed Methodology

Automatic water control system

Advantages
Main advantages of the system are:

Increased throughput or productivity by reducing process

time.

Improved efficiency of plant by continuous monitoring and

control.

Improved reliability of processes.

Increased stability of output.
Reduced direct human labor costs and expenses
