Both load apply on the abutment and mucosa area are
different.
Distribution of forces can be alter by varying the rigidity of
the conector
High rigidity conector - more load on abutment tooth
Flexible conector-less load apply on abutment,but increase
load on mucous membrane.
Its concepts is to reduce torque and load on abutment tooth
 Mechanism of action

When occlusal load applied, denture tends to be rock because of different

compressibility between the abutment tooth and soft tissue
With the present of stress breaker, ex Hinge-like joint is place within the denture
base and the abutment tooth, allow slightly movement thus causing the stress to be
distributed equally and less force acting on abutment and cause less trauma on it.
