TASK 1: A STATEMENT

OF PERSONAL AIMS
Brief: I have been asked to provide a 2-3
minutes for a year 10 Music showcase as
either a solo artist or as part a duo.
What makes an effective rehearsal?
Time efficiency
This improves rehearsals as it means all the time is spent doing what you need to do
for the future performance.
Communication
There can be many different types of communications. This can include verbal and
non verbal. Non verbal may mostly be used in an actual performance, this may
include hand gestures and eye contact.
Preparation
How are you going to improve without preparation, the more preparation you have,
the more new things you can try within the rehearsal.
Having fun
Its a blessing to be able to do music and you should take the most of the opportunity.
Improvement and reflection
This is influenced by preparation and practice.
Limit distractions
The less of this you have, the more you will achieve in your rehearsal and the better
you will be in your performance.
Attendance
This is important as if your not there then you cannot proceed to a further point.
What do I need to do in preparation for an effective
rehearsal?
In order to have an effective and successful rehearsal I
must make sure all my practise is done up to standards
and have a range of ideas to work on before the
rehearsal.
What are your strengths when it comes to rehearsal?
My strengths in a rehearsal would include how well I am
prepared for them. I usually do everything I need for it and
I do try and think of ways to go further and think of ideas
and techniques to make the rehearsal more productive
and have a better final performance.
What skills do you currently have on your
instrument you are performing on?
I play the piano, I have been playing it for about four years.
As I have been playing the piano for a large number of years
I do have a range of skills on it.
I can sight-read and I can learn song easily, I also know how
to briefly learn a song by ear . I also have a strong knowledge
about music contribution, which highly impacts my ability to
be able to learn a song. I know how to identify a time
signature, I can find the beat of the song and I can also
identify weather or not the song is in major or minor key.
On the piano I also know a large variety of piees and songs
and also scales and arpeggios which were essential to learn
for my ongoing grade exams.
What skills do you need to improve on, on your
instrument?
The skills on which I must consider improving on piano would
include thoughorly improving my sightreading as it is very essential
in ,usc and I will also be working towads grade 5 piano.
On vocals I have more deeper areas to improve on as it is not a
instrument on which I have been doing for a lot of years but I lve it
very much and enjoy from every part of it.
For vocals I must imprve very highly on vocal projection as I
struggle to even be heard at times.
I must build upon my abilities of singing in a correct and
comfortable key.
I also want to experiment more and reduce the very large amount
of tension I have in my facial muscles as best as I possibly can by
having correct breathing techniques and developing more on my
tone in a correct method.
What is your musical experience
My musical experience includes performances done for the rock school
course.
We had a Christmas arts showcase in which I performed in a band and
performed to a big audience. We were asked to perform a Christmas song.
Another performance I had taken part in was again in a band and we
performed to a slightly smaller audience, on the song say something.
External experiences from the rock school music course would be my grade
exam. I have taken part in 3 previous grade exam and passed them, grade
one with a merit.
These experiences have helped me a lot along the path of my musical
journey. They have all contributed to my involvement and interaction in
music, also they have contributed to my happiness.
Taking part in all of these, makes me utterly happy, and its always a lot
easier to find out what I must improve on.
It also gives me another excuse to work my hardest and carry on doing what
I love.
Artist who I am influenced by
1. Ed Sheeran
He is my inspiration, I am mostly influenced by him.
His music makes me feel it all within my heart. The biggest part which I love about him
would be his image. Mostly artists are shown in the same way, especially females. But
they must always be good looking, females mostly would be wearing extremely revealing
clothing and loads and loads of make up for males too. What I mean by this would be the
stereotype included. Those stereotypes also reduce the purpose of music. The tours and
concerts are usually full because they can use auto tune and would be wearing very
revealing clothes or make up, or they are simply very attractive. Usually people would not
consider the skills and talent the artist has.
The reason why I am influenced by Ed and most especially his image in which he
presents himself is because he is not there for showing off his good looks, neither does he
wear make up or use auto tune, anyone can use auto tune and appear on stage . The
point I am trying to bring across is that is not essential or necessary to wear very revealing
clothes and cover your face completely in make up just to be a successful musician. It all
depends on true talent and the committed soul you have. What I love about Ed is the
compassion he has in his face when he sings. You can see it all on his face< he is very
talented without the use of auto tune or make up. He acts like a normal human as that is
what he is.
Harry styles
Harry styles is another very inspirational people who I am
influenced by through how far has gotten from where he started
and his image that he shows to all and has wanted to prove.
A special aspect that makes Harry shine is his personality. He
shows that it is not necessary to be mean and rude to be famous
and a singer.
For example
"Harry saw me crying, put his arm around me and said, 'Come
on babe, pull yourself together, you are Sam Bailey, you are
amazing.
The presenter had said
"I love it dude, because you walk into a room and shake
everyone's hand."
When he had been asked how he is so nice and humble he had
replied:
"My Mum, I guess. It's just such an unattractive trait that you just
kind of go, I never want to be the guy who leaves the room and
people talk about me how people talk about that guy when he's
left. I don't think it's that hard.
Its his personality which reflects upon the image he's presenting
and the level of niceness and humbleness he has shows a very
positive image and character.
What would you like you image to be for performing
The image I would want to show in my performances
would be to not stereotypical and would be based on
talent, compassion with the music, I want to have a lot of
emotions in my performances, to make it touch
everyone's hearts. I want to be doing it all for the music
and sharing all the talent that I have within my soul. I do
not wish to be covering my face up and not showing who I
truly am and neither do I wish to be wearing unnecessary
revealing clothes. I wish to show am image of inspiration
and of a normal person just like anyone else in the world.
What is the impact of punctuality and attendance to
rehearsals?
Punctuality and attendance has a big impact as the lower It would be,
the more the efficiency would be and the result would be that the
overall performance would suffer.
Why is it important to have active engagement with other musicians
and your peers during the rehearsal process?
This is very important if there is no engagement and communication
the rehearsal would not be effective and much improvement and
reflection would not be made as you need to have an active
engagement to do well and you have to work together, as in the end
you perform as a group and you will not be doing something
separately, It needs to be altogether.
