MEETING IN
ITALY

February 2017
The first exchange of pupils in the Erasmus+
project
Young Enterprising Europeans took place from
the 12th to the 18th of February 2017 in Bagheria,
Italy. Host school was
Scuola Secondaria di I Grado G. Carducci.
Italian teachers and pupils hosted
guests from 4 partner countries:
Poland, Croatia, Greece and Slovenia.
Croatian team consisted of 4 pupils
and 3 teachers.

Ana Eegovi,
Ivona Farago,
Veronika Huber.
Bagheria is a town in the metropolitan area
of Palermo.
It is known as the City of villas . Rich
noblemen from Palermo started building
vacation homes in Bagheria 300 years ago and
now there are 33 baroque villas there. They are
a great tourist attraction.
Bagheria has about 55000 inhabitants.

their mini companies
and Polish students
talked about their
school shop, too.
We were shown the facilities
Students visited dance
school Dance Art where
they talked with the owner
about starting and running
the business. They also tried
dancing.
In Cefalu we visited the shop that belongs to
Francesco Liberto, also konwn as Ciccio. He was
born in 1936 and has been working in his shop since
he was 16. He is a shoemaker and makes handmade
and custom-made shoes for the best drivers on the
global racing scene. The talked about hardships and
successes and his story was very inspiring for the
students.

We visited the mayor
of Bagheria in the
oldest villa, Villa
Butera.
The most famous villa is Villa Palagoina, built from
1715. It is known as The villa of monsters because
there are statues of monsters with human faces in
the garden and all around the walls.
Cefalu is a small town on the northern coast
of Sicily. It is a beautiful town which attracts
millions of tourists. It has a cathedral from the
12th century which is on the UNESCOs list of
world heritage.
The Royal palace of Ficuzza is a hunting
lodge built by Ferdinand III of Sicily in 1803. It is at
the foot of the mountain and surrounded by the
biggest forest in western Sicily.
We visited the clinic for
wild animals, mostly birds,
in Ficuzza.
A good example of entrepreneurship is
turning an old railway station into a modern and
popular restaurant.
Palermo is the capital and the largest city of
Sicily. It has 720000 inhabitants.
Palace of Normans was the seat of the kings of
sicily. Today it is the seat of the Sicilian Regional
Assembly.
Capella Palatina has elements of different
cultures and religions.
The next meeting will be in April in Croatia.
We are looking forward to working together and
showing our country to the guests.
