Objective:

ESWBAT-Today we will understand why alka-seltzer dissolves in water

when it makes contact with water.

y/activities/lava-lamp.pdf
Do Now:

Why do you think alka-seltzer dissolves in water the

way it does?
Answers to the Do Now:

This chemical reaction forms water carbon dioxide gas.

Todays lesson:
In today's lesson we will learn why alka-seltzer dissolves with bubbles. An Alka-seltzer tablet
contains asprin, sodium bicarbonate, and citric acid.when placed in water the sodium
bicatbonate and citric acid react with each other to the bubbles of carbon dioxide gas.The
hot water dissolves it faster because the molecules move faster and push it around. Density
is the measurement of how compact a substance is how much of it fits in a certain amount
of space.(The scientific equation is density=mass/volume.)If you measure an equal volume
of oil and water, your fing that the water is Heavier than the same amount of oil.Real lava
lamps use a polar and nonpolar liquid just like home-made one.
