How does your media product represent particular social

groups?

By Will Shiers
The Only two groups I
represented in my opening of
a film is a teenager and
young adult. this is because I
wanted the opening film to
only focus on the main
character and begin to see
their side. However there is a
young adult who is the news
reporter.
Since this is a global real news
show clip he follows the
stereotypical clever and smart
young adult who has gone through
their exams and done very well to
get into this job and to present the
news.
I represented the teen as a
stereotype with the idea of always
getting into trouble and breaking
the law however with my film this
is an extreme condition of this idea
with the bomb making and
explosion we hear. This is helps tie
in with his background and
upbringing.
SInce my character is very stereotyped the clothes is wearing in the
mise-en-scene helps represent this stereotype, such as the hoodie to
help cover himself and part of his face up which is why i included the
shot of him pulling the hood up to show that this was intentional.
Continuing with the clothes they are more of a dark side which helps
connote the idea of darkness and suspicion rather than if he is in bright
clothes with a tank top and bright shorts it makes less tension around
that color take the idea of the flash and zoom from the tv drama the
flash, while the flash is in red which gives a lighter safer feel while zoom
is in all black and covering his entire face this give a more intense
feeling adding fear for that character.
Compared to other teens in tv dramas is an extreme but to compare
the idea of the show Arrow and how he Roy Harper is living a bad life
but however changes his ways for better after a good influence since all
he wants to do is do good in the world and my character my follow the
same path.
Over I wanted the audience to have a more suspense feel over my lead
character and make them almost fear him but the entire film they would
feel different towards him but understand where he is coming from in
the narrative.
