The Black Lives Matter movement started in 2013 in response to killings of African Americans by police, which has become a nationwide controversy as black lives are intentionally left powerless. The author has started weekly lessons for girls on her sports team to educate them on their rights to help address this issue. However, protests and rallies have not yet led to real solutions as the problem remains ongoing.

Adolescents & Young Adults are either ignorant of their
rights and responsibilities when encountering law enforcement within our community, or apathetic regarding asserting such. In either case, young people across our country find themselves ushered into a criminal justice system that has purposed to punish rather than rehabilitate. FACTS
