Beliefs of Ireland

Most of the citizens of Ireland are Roman Catholic.
Belonging to the church, one must accept as factually true the gospel of Jesus as handed
down in tradition and as interpreted by the Bishops in union with the Pope. The main
teachings in the religion are:
God's objective existence, like many other religions

God's interest in individual human beings, who can enter into relations with God
(through prayer)

The Trinity

the divinity of Jesus

the immortality of the soul of each human being, each one being accountable at
death for his or her actions in life, with the award of heaven or hell

the historicity of the Gospels

the divine commission of the church

Holidays

Holiday: St. Patricks Day
St. Patrick was born in 387 CE and grew up near the now boarder
between Scotland and England. He was shipped to Ireland as a
slave at 16 years old, but fled back to Brittan 6 years later. He
returned to Ireland as a missionary. He played an important role in
converting Ireland's inhabitants to Christianity. According to legend,
he drove all snakes from the island, although these "snakes"
probably represent a particular group of pagans or druids.
To celebrate St. Patricks Day, the people of Ireland hold parades
and festivals to honor the Irish culture. Some festivals run many
weeks.
