Personal Life
~Wilson was born on December 28th, 1856 in
Staunton City, Virginia.

~His family was ethnic Scottish-Irish mix.

~He began reading at ten. He struggled with


dyslexia.

~In 1873, he became a committed member of


Columbia First Presbyterian Church.

~His first wife of 29 years, Ellen, died of kidney


failure. He married again about two years later to
Edith.
Education and Career
~He studied at Princeton, University of
Virginia, and Johns Hopkins University.

~He taught at Cornell University, Bryn Mawr


College and Wesleyan University.

~He also became President of Princeton


University

~He was Governor of New Jersey

~He became President of the United States


in 1913 and served two consecutive terms
Views and Presidency
~didnt support womens suffrage (right to vote)

~believed that our checks and balances system


was too complicated

~created the presidential policy called New


Freedom

~wanted to keep America out of WWI by promoting


neutrality

~Fourteen Points: emphasized the possible ways to


keep peace. It sparked the creation of the League
of Nations
