Baba & Amir

Complex
If I hadnt seen the doctor
pull him out of my wife
with my own eyes, Id
never believe hes my son
(Hosseini 25).
In this quotation, it is apparent the little emotional connection Baba has with
J Amir, as their relationship is merely bound due to their blood relation.
Q u Throughout Amir's childhood, Baba puts little effort into forming a bond with
s Amir as he is unable to come to terms with his son's interests and differences
u from himself. Amir struggles throughout his early years as he constantly feels to
o t blame for his mother's death which puts a strain on their relationship. Yet Amir
t i persistently tries to gain Baba's affection, as he craves for a fatherly figure. It is
due to the lack of mutual effort in creating and maintaining a father-son
f
a relationship that makes their relationship complex. However, Baba is
i occasionally affectionate and caring towards Amir, teaching his son on his own
t c views on life and guiding him in the right direction.
i a Babas lack of fatherly interest and overall neglect of his son is a prevalent
o t problem throughout the novel, as none of Amirs efforts led to him receiving the
only thing he wanted; his father's approval, thus creating a complex relationship
n i and division between the two.

J In order to display Baba and Amirs complex relationship, I chose a detailed
u ancient celtic symbol. The ancient celtic symbol is referred to as a complicated
s and intricate design, that is difficult to recreate for most. This is similar to the
t relationship of Baba and Amir, as it is highly complicated yet it is unique and
I i exclusive to them.
m f The circular knots that create the circular shape in the image symbolize continuity
a i of life and and emphasizes endless emotions. The design of the circular knots is
g c
similar to that of the design of DNA. This design suits the relationship between
e a
Baba and Amir as no matter the condition of their relationship, their DNA binds
t
them together into a relationship that will forever remain with them in their lives.
i
Overall, the image I chose illustrates the complexity present in the father-son
o
n relationship.
