Bonds Between Us
In this collection, it talks about how people can come
together, how people build friendship.
When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine
By Jhumpa Lahiri
In the short story When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine Jhumpa Lahiri claims
how people from the same race come together through war and
tragedy. The author supports this when she states What they heard
that evening, and for many evenings after that, was that India and
Pakistan were drawing closer and closer to war. In this quote the
author describes how both Mr. Pirzada and Lilias family were aware of
the events happening between India and Pakistan. This proves her
argument because both Mr. Pirzada and the family knows what's going
on and are united to help each other out. This shows the bond between
people of the same race coming together through tragic situations.
And of Clay Are We Created
By Isabel Allende
In the short story And of Clay are we Created by Isabel Allende she
claims Tragedy helps people learn to communicate with each other.
She support her claim when she states, When Darkness came on the
second day, Rolf tried to sing Azucena to sleep with old Austrian Folk
song he had learn from his mother, but she was stalking far beyond
sleep. This means that Rolf is trying to help Azucena to fell asleep. This
proves her argument because the reporter is trying his best to help and
cheer up the girl that's stuck. This supports her argument because of
the Tragedy people learn how to connect and help others in need.
Monkey See, Monkey Do,
Monkey Connect
By Frans De Waal
According to the story, Monkey See, Monkey Do, Monkey Connect animals do
the same mannerisms as the other animals around them. A good example from
the text in in lines 85 to 87 Does a chimp identify the others body movement or
could it be that he doesnt need the other and instead focuses on the problem
faced by another? This is a good example because it is a statement of how
exactly a chimp may copy anothers movements. Another way an animal may
automatically change their mannerisms is if for instance as stated in the
previous lines. This matters because if a monkey is sad or mad then the other
monkey may end up wanting to cheer the other up, or sharing the same
emotions. In conclusion these are some examples animals may copy others
mannerisms.
With Friends Like These
By Dorothy Rowe
In the informational text With Friends Like These Dorothy Rowe
claims the factors that allow two people to become friends is by finding
a connection and accepting who they are as a person. She supports her
claim when she states The people who can validate us best are those
we can see as equals, and with whom there can be mutual affection,
trust, loyalty and acceptance.(Rowe #3) This means that friends are
the ones that value and accept who we are, and are people we can
trust. This supports her statement argument because when two people
get to know each other, they have confidence and give them time and
accept how they are. It is important to understand how different people
are connected because of friendship.
At Dusk
By Natasha Tretheway
In the poem At dusk I believe the meaning of the story is why being
kind and having bonds are important. Reason being is because when
you have connections for instance with your pets then youd have a
companion and almost never be lonely. Two key parts from the text are
line 28 Certain the sounds I make are enough to call someone home.
And also on lines 5-6 Animals who know only sound, not the meanings
of our words. These quotes from the text are important because they
have a connection to being nice and having a companion. Whether it be
a lady or a cat. Because no animal or person wants a mean/rude
partner or owner.
Connections to Today #1
One of the conflicts that prevent people from forming bonds is because
they have the different Race or Religion. One example of this is many
people don't understand that there is still a lot of systemic
discrimination in the US and around the world today against others .
The solution could be Respecting others and being Friends.
Connections to Today #2
Another conflict that prevents people from having bonds with each
other is stereotypes. For example, stereotyping has at times proved to
be hurtful and oppressive, taken in a lighter vein. A solution to this
conflict would be accepting how others are and also getting to know the
people.
