What are conjunctions?

a word used to connect sentences or to coordinate

words in the same clause (e.g. and, but, while,


because, when, until)
Subordinating conjunctions: While,
when, until, because.
A Subordinating Conjunction establishes the
relationship between the dependent clause and the
rest of the sentence. It also turns the clause into
something that depends on the rest of the sentence
for its meaning
While/when
While/when:
The prince was worried while her daughter lived with
the king.
The sirens were ringing while the robber left the bank.

She runs everyday while her children sleep.

They go to the gym When they finish work.


He gets up from bed When the alarm rings.
Until
Until:
She sleeps until the alarm rings. Then she takes a
shower.
We stayed at the bus stop until the bus arrived.

They lived in that house until they moved to a bigger


house.
