ABSTRACT
In the developing world, washing laundry is a difficult,
time-consuming task the falls solely on women Powered washing
machine exist, but they are impractical in rural reasons because
running water and electric are expensive or unavailable. Several
groups already tried to build a machine for the regions but they have
been unsuccessful. Their machines were either to build and repair
because they improved parts or they do not wash effectively. Our
invention is a low cost, pedal power washing machine that designed
around readily available parts. Its innovation is its simple design and
its use inexpressive plastic barrel and bicycle components.

INTRODUCTION
In our developing country, rural women are among the least
privileged. Women are both essential to the family unit and integral to the
economy, yet they rarely have equal opportunities for career development,
or social status when compared to men. One factor behind the inequality is
the long list of responsibilities that traditionally fall to women. Not only
do women perform agricultural duties and care for livestock alongside
men, but women are also responsible for many domestic works. Usually,
new technology improves peoples efficiency, but women benefits less
from new technology for several reasons. First, womens duties are
neglected by technological improvement efforts because of domestic
works are often seen as cultural obligations for women little efforts is
expended to diminish them.
Our team intends to directly address the plight faced by women
by developing a pedal-powered washing machine. An average
woman may do two to three loads per week for a family about four
children and her husband. It generally takes at least 8 hours of
washing time, not including the extra time needed to walk to the
public washing machine reservoir or hang up clothes to dry.
The pulley works like the wheel on the bike. The belt attaches
it to the generator. This allows the work done on the bike to be
translated to the generator. The belt and the pulley are each
one of six simple machines, commonly used for all sorts of mechanical
projects.

On pedal power devices the type of pulley needed is divided

between whether the pedal-power device replaces a motor device
(as in the case of the washing machine), or if the pedal power device
generates electricity (as in the pedal-powered television). The motor
replacing devices commonly use a shaft-mounted drive pulley.
However the pulley for electricity-generating devices uses a cycle
chain
OBJECTIVE
General objectives

The main objective of this project is to wash the cloths, save

electric power, and also work as fitness workout. And the working
of the project is also known as three in one purpose object. Here the
gearing supplied by the manufacturer on a new bicycle is selected to
be useful to the majority of people. Some cyclists choose to fine-
tune the gearing to better suit their strength, level of fitness, and
expected use. Now a days the electric power saving is an important
one. It can save our electric power. And also it done its as usual
work of washing.
Specific objectives

The specific objectives of this study are as follow

To save electric power

Fitness workout for the user

And also washing the cloths

METHODOLOGY
The top-loading design or vertical-axis clothes washer, most
popular in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and
Latin America, places the clothes in a vertically mounted perforated
basket that is contained within a water-retaining tub, with a finned
water-pumping agitator in the center of the bottom of the basket.
Clothes are loaded through the top of the machine, which is covered
with a hinged door. During the wash cycle, the outer tub is filled
with water sufficient to fully immerse and suspend the clothing
freely in the basket. The movement of the agitator pushes water
outward between the paddles towards the edge of the tub.
The water then moves outward, up the sides of the basket,
towards the center, and then down towards the agitator to repeat the
process, in a circulation pattern similar to the shape of a torus The
agitator direction is periodically reversed, because continuous
motion in one direction would just lead to the water spinning around
the basket with the agitator rather than the water being pumped in
the torus-shaped motion. Some washers supplement the water
pumping action of the agitator with a large rotating screw on the
shaft above the agitator, to help move water downwards in the center
of the basket.

CONSTRUCTION
Construction a cylindrical drum using metal of require dimension.
Present the bicycle and make the bicycle carriers using tube, angles or
other flat irons available. All elements are together to the bicycle. Slots
are drilled into the plates, which allow for the adjustment of the voltage
belt. Place the bicycle on the chassis, measuring using a string the
length of the belt If necessary. Drill hour holes into the flame and
secure. Use chain to transmit power from pedal to pulley putting it in
place, tighten tender and the machine is ready effectively. Clean your
clothes, the rotation of the tank should not be too fast about 70- 80 rpm.
Manufacture, use and maintenance of the pedal powered washing
machine is available.
WORKING PRICIPLE
Basically it separate like as a washing machine. But in this
project we dont use the electric power to move the washing
machine wheel. We are using cycle pedal, by pedalling the washing
wheel be moving. We use in it two pulley which ratio is 1:4, means
when small one is moving 4 times big one is rotating ones. After the
power transfer through a bevel gear, though another pulley, which is
connect to the end of the bevel gear. When we moving the first
pulley 1time, means the washing pulley will rotate 16times. During,
this clothes will be wash.

Number of bearings = 2(3/4 inch dia hole )
Pedalling revolution between the sprockets is 1: 3
Leg of the stand length = 3 feet
Distance between the legs = 4 feet

ADVANTAGES
To save electric power

Less maintenance

It is also known as workout for the user

Initial amount is low

Easy to operate

It saves our time

CONCLUSION
The pedal-powered washing machine is quite different from the
communitys current method of washing clothes; the community
may be reluctant to try the new machine. Achieved what we desired
i.e. to build a manually driven pedal powered low cost washing
machine using locally available materials and performing necessary
function of washing and rinsing with ease. Our washing machine
doesnt consume electricity. The washing machine can be used by
the urban people also while workout and exercises. It can serve dual
purposes. While cycling, the clothes can be washed utilizing the
pedaling of the human being. If the production of this washing
machine is done at commercial scale then the total production cost
of the machine can be reduced to 40% of estimated cost.
