The Boat Challenge!!!

Background
Renewable energy sources such as solar,
wind, or geothermal are good alternatives
to carbonbased fossil fuels. Because they
are not carbonbased, they do not
contribute to the increased levels of CO2
that are responsible for climate change.
Furthermore, unlike fossil fuels, these
renewable energy sources can be replaced
within a short period of time. Once we use
fossil fuels up, they are gone.
 Objective
Design, build, and test a baloon powered
boat and identify ways to improve the
design.
 Challenge
Your company is asked by the goverment
of Country of Marbella to design a boat to
transport container of goods/materials
from one side of the lake to the other side
Since there are Clean Energy Regulation
in the Country of Marbella that limits the
use of fossil fuels, you can only use
renewable energy source to power the
boat
 Challenge
As a means of the power source, the boat
should only use wind energy.
The boat should be able to run across the
lake in a straight path and carrying certain
amount of goods/material.
The cost to build the boat and the time the
boat take to cross the lake will be
important aspect to be considered by the
goverment.
 Design
Draw a boat design using the provided
materials to answer the challenge
The boat should be able to carry certain
amount of goods (in this case the goods
will be replaced by some weight of small
rocks approx. 150gr) on top of it.
The boat will use baloon as the wind
energy generator

 Build
Based on your design, build the boat
using the provided materials
 Test
If the boat is ready, test your boat to
transport the goods across the lake
Record the distance and the time to travel
for the boat to cross the lake
 Improve
Based on the test result, what kind of
improvement that you need for your boat
to be more effective and efficient
