INTRODUCTION
The basic modal is completed by Joseph M. Jacquard
in 1801. The machine name is also on the name of
the scientist name JACQUARD.
The original machine was a single lift . This machine
has been used for more than a century and eighty
years. During that time many parts were modified to
render them more reliable, to reduce the cost of
working and to increase the speed of the machine.
Jacquard shedding
The jacquard is a shedding device placed on the
top of the loom to produce large figure patterns
by using a very large no. of warp threads
separately, by means of harness cords, hooks and
needles, but without any heald shaft. It is the
finest of all machines for making the figure woven
fabrics, that have ever been invented and far
superior in capacity to a dobby. Each hook in a
jacquard represent a single heald.
The principle of jacquard shedding is that each
mail eye is connected separetly to its hook by
means of a harness.
The jacquard weaving is characterized by the following
distinctive features :-
1) Sketching, designing, card cutting and lacing.
2) Harness building
3) Lifting the griffe, knives, and hooks and
4) Rotation of card cylinder
Types of jacquard :-
1) Single lift jacquard
2) Double lift single cylinder jacquard
3) Double lift double cylinder jacquard
4) Jacquards for special use, viz., cross border jacquard,
twilling or damask jacquard, leno jacquard, double shed
jacquard, compound jacquard etc.
