CAD Model
Meshing
The 3D cad model
was converted into
2D shell model. Mid
surface was used for
the modeling
purpose.
With an average
element size of 10
mm, 2018 elements
and 1735 nodes
constituted the shell
model.
The element size was
chosen arbitrarily.
Parameters used
Loading type: Nodal
Loading magnitude: 200N
Loading location: Arbitrary point
close to center
BC: Rotationally and translationally
constrained base
Patran Modeling
The material is modeled as
2D laminated composite
shell element.
Static Analysis

Nodal load: 200N, Maximum Stress: 22.4 MPa, Maximum Deformation:0.496mm

Modal Analysis: mode shape 1
Modal Analysis: mode shape 2

Conclusion

Material properties used for the numerical analysis was comparable to that
of steel.
The physical relevance of modal and static analysis couldnt be stated
because of lack of experimental data.
The simulation was only limited to elements with no curvature, so the effect
of curvature and stress concentration was out of scope of the simulation.
The loading parameters were also chosen arbitrarily so the simulation
cannot inform about practical application.
