SPEAKING TEST OVERVIEW

4 PARTS
Tests are taken in pairs, or sometimes a
group of three
Includes:
answering short questions,
speaking about a picture,
discussing,
expressing opinions and responding.
Remember the assessment criterias!
Grammar and vocabulary
Discourse Management
Pronunciation
Interactive Communication
Part 1 (2-3min.)
General conversation with EACH of the
candidates (Topics: personal details, daily
routines, likes, dislikes, etc.
Tips:
Listen carefully to the questions and give relevant
answers;
Avoid one-word answers (extend giving reasons
and examples)
Part 2 (2-3min)
A set of images: candidates discuss their ideas
about an imaginary situation together:
Making and responding to suggestions,
Discussing alternatives,
Making recommendations,
Negotiating agreement.
Tips:
Use appropriate language and interactive strategies,
Give your opinion and ask your partner questions,
Discuss all the visual prompts do not conclude too
quickly.
Part 3 (3min)
The candidates take turns to describe a photo
for about 1 min. each
Tips:
Describe the photos as fully as possible,
Organise your language,
Paraphrase/ synonyms if unknown words
Part 4 (3min)
Conversation (theme part 3)
Discuss their likes, dislikes, experiences, etc.
Tips:
Appropriate language and interaction strategies,
Show interest,
Avoid talking only about yourself.
