- Learn basics of python programming: EdX will be used to start learning the basics and fundamentals of python
programing. Possible courses to follow are Introduction to CS with Python, Introduction to Python for absolute
beginners.
- Learn to use python to tackle data science problems: Datacamp (Intro to python for data science), EdX (Introduction to
python for data science) and Coursera (Applied data science with Python Specialization) websites will be used.

September 1-November 30 2017


- Gain experience working with Cobra.py and other python packages used in flux balance analysis.
- Reproduce results from Sainz (Sainz, Pizarro et al. 2003) and Pizarro (Pizarro, Varela et al. 2007) papers.
- Start getting familiar with the software (EDD and Arrowland) prepared by JBEI if it is released.

October 31 2017- June 30 2018


- Carry out Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentations to measure uptake or production rates of important metabolites for
future flux balance analyses.
- Start experimenting with large Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolic models to try predicting the experimental outputs.
- Decision point: Do I have enough progress towards my PhD thesis ?
