THE USE OF MODAL VERB: "CAN - CAN'T"

The verb "CAN" means "POWER",


this verb is used to express ability, to
say something is possible, to ask for
or give permission and to offer things.
STRUCTURE
AFFIRMATIVE
Subject + can + verb + complement
EXAMPLE
I can swim very well

She can come to the party

We can make lunch today


NEGATIVE
Subject + can't + verb + complement
EXAMPLE
I can't speak French

He can't eat sugar

They can't win the championship


INTERROGATIVE
Can + subject + verb + complement?
EXAMPLE
Can you play the guitar?
Yes, you can / No, you can't

Can he run fast?


Yes, he can / No, he can't

Can they help me?


Yes, they can / No, they can't
We can also ask questions using Wh- interrogative, like this:

The verb can present four expressions
1. - Possibility of certain events.
2. - The ability or capacity of people /
things.
3. - To ask / give permission.
4. - To ask / offer things.
