The signs in 1 say , you must. You have to follow these rules.
They are all to do with clothing and personal equipment. The
signs in 2 are warning signs. They say, be careful.

Language
Past simple: be
We use the past simple of be to talk I/He/She/It was/wasnt in the site
about the past. managers office yesterday.
We/You/They were/werent here
this morning.
Past simple
We use the past simple to talk about actions and situations
that started and finished in the past.
To form the past simple of regular I sprained my ankle.
verb, we add ed. to the verb. The pallet crushed his hand.
Some verbs do not form the past He fell off the scaffolding. ( fall
simple with ed. They are irregular fell)
(e.g. go went , buy bought, meet He broke his arm. (break broke)
met , etc.).
2. Read this extract from an accident report and
underline the verbs in the past simple. Which
verbs are regular?
Vocabulary 3. Tick () the items you need to treat
a cut finger.


4. Put these sentences for the treatment of a cut
finger in the correct order.

3 Clean the cut under running water.


5 Cover the cut with a dressing or plaster.

1 Wash your hands.
4 Dry the cut using a dressing or cotton wool.
5. Imagine a worker cut his finger yesterday. Write
down how you treated it. Use the verbs in the box
to help you.

under a tube of antiseptic cream. I dried the cut
using cotton wool then I covered the cut with a
plaster. And the last I put on disposable gloves. And
that was it, all finished.
Listening 6. Listen and compare. Is anything different
to the way you treated the finger in 5?

7. Listen to a health and safety officer ordering


supplies from a medical supplies for the first
aid kit and complete this list.

Speaking 8. Work in pairs and take turns. Choose one
of the injuries in 1. Tell your partner about

A: I was burnt on my arm.


B: Ok. First I need to check the burnt then washed it
by using antiseptic cream cover it with a dressing and
