Topic: Sawfish
By: Jackson Dahnke and Shania Chung
ABOUT THIS ANIMAL

These fish usually swim with other fish like cobia

Saw teeth on the bill are very sharp and are used for many
things like cutting/stunning fish to eat
They are not intentionally aggressive but if they get caught on
the end of a hook they will use their bill to try and escape
This meat eating animal can grow up to 18ft long
REASONS FOR EXTINCTION

Has been on the endangered animal list since 2003

The 2 main reasons these animals are going extinct are
Getting caught up in nets by commercial and recreational fishers
Along with their loss of habitat by predators and surprisingly
sunscreen
Sharks are sawfish only predator
SAWFISH IN AQUARIUMS

The picture on the right is a picture of a sawfish that was

caught by rescuers and is now in the Dallas World
aquarium. Which has taken another sawfish out of the
waters to reproduce. The sawfish needs a big area to
swim which aquariums do not provide but they can try
their best to provide for the sawfish.
WHERE THEY LIVE

Sawfish live in costal, tropical, and subtropical waters

They do live near the US but only in the gulf of Mexico
A lot of the sawfish population does live near Australia
WE DONT WANT ANYMORE
