What is LGBT ?
The acronym LGBTwhich refers to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender peopleis being used more frequently and relates to the
diversity of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Issues regarding LGBT employees
U.S. federal law does not prohibit discrimination against employees
on the basis of sexual orientation.
They had been unfairly treated, denied a promotion, or pushed to
quit their job because of their sexual orientation.
Employers in the United States have taken differing approaches to
their treatment of sexual orientation.
Amendments made to more suit LGBT
employees
In Europe, the Employment Equality Directive required all European
Union member states to introduce legislation making it unlawful to
discriminate on grounds of sexual orientation.
Human Rights Campaign Foundation stated that, 85 percent of the
largest corporations in the United States now prohibit employment
discrimination based on sexual orientation and 35 percent prohibit
bias based on gender identity.
Ernst & Young, S. C. Johnson & Sons, Inc., and Kodak, among others,
all provide training to managers on ways to prevent sexual orientation
discrimination.
