The Application Letter

Definition
An application letter is a letter written to a prospective
employer by a person who wants to apply for a job.
Three Important things in an
application:
1. A prospective Employer
2. An Applicant
3. A letter of Application
The applicant.is the seller.
He/she sells his/her services, skills, talents, experiences, expertise,
knowledge to the employer.

The prospective employer..is the buyer.


He buys the services of the applicant or seller.
He invests his money on the salary of his applicant when taken in as
an employee of his company.
The application letter.is the advertising
instrument.
It advertises the applicants qualifications, skills, abilities, expertise,
etc.
2 Kinds of Application Letter
1. Solicited Application Letter:
It is an application letter written in response to an advertisement
or to an information given by a person who knows of the job
vacancy.
2. Unsolicited Application Letter:
It is an application letter written by chance.
How to begin a Solicited Application Letter:
State where or from whom you have learned of the
vacancy.
I have learned from Mr. Mateo Corpus, your Liaison Officer, that
you are in need of a CPA to work as an internal auditor in your
company.

Representatives of your company came to our Municipal Office


to participate in our Second Job Fair last October 3, 2017. They
distributed leaflets containing job openings in your company and I feel
that my qualification fits the job opening.
Philippine Daily Inquirer dated October 12, 2017, Volume 29,
Issue No. 16, posted an advertisement for a job opening for a CPA. I
am very much interested to fill up the position if you deem it
necessary to employ one.

How to begin an Unsolicited Letter of
Application:
The ULA usually begins with the name, age, civil status, residence
and educational qualification of the applicant.
Then, an explanation of the intention of writing the letter and a
mention of the job applying for. (This may be stated first if you wish.)
Next, state what you have to offer the employer, why your skills and
experiences are good fit for the job. You may also give an example for
each skill mentioned.
Expression of thanks to the hiring manager for considering you as an
applicant, your willingness for an interview, and note how you will
follow up.
