PROPERTIES OF DISTEMPER
AND
AND DEFECTS OF DISTEMPER
The coatings of distemper are usually thick and they are more
brittle than other types of water paints.
They are treated as water paints and they are easy to apply.
PROPERTIES OF
DISTEMPER
Preparation of surface:
The surface to be distempered should be thoroughly rubbed and
cleaned.
The efflorescence patches should be carefully wiped out by clean
cloth. The irregularities in surfaces (such as cracks, holes etc)
should be filled with putty.
If distempering is to be done on new surface, it should be kept
exposed for 3-6 months. So the water evaporates.
If distempering is to be done on old surface, old loose
distemper should be removed by scraping and profuse watering
