Stem and Leaf Display

Data to be used:

Procedure for constructing a Stem and Leaf display:

1. Decide on what digits will consist of the stem and


the leaf in each data value
2. List in ascending order in the first column of the
display the data values representing the stems
3. Write in a row at the right side of each stem (in a
second column) its various leaves
4. Indicate below or beside the display, the digit place
value that is used for the stem and the leaf

Stems = first or second digits
Leaves = remaining digits
Ex. Stem = 9 & Leaf = 6 is 96
