BACKGROUND
• Jack Neift Trucking was a family-owned company, founded in 1937.

• Jack Neift, had started a trucking company with one truck and one
client. As the time passes on and on number of trucks increased to five
hundred.

• Bea Stove Burdon is the present president.

• The company mostly serviced states east of the Mississippi but also had
corridors into Texas and Oklahoma. The major portion of the company’s
Income is generated from the routes of New York City.

• The company had seen weak financial times but because of its ability to
adapt quickly to the market conditions, it remained one of the best
companies in the United States.

• Company was facing a problem i.e. DEADHEADING. This is the common


term used in the trucking industry. Deadheading occurs when a truck goes
from point to point without a load of cargo.

• Information channels and communication system was not good


PROBLEMS/OPPORTUNITIES

• Company’s Profit Margin has declined because of deadheading.

• lack of real time information and communication. As the company’s


previous system doesn’t support the company’s needs and the
services to its customer.

• If we adopt the latest technology related to communication and


information then ultimately it would help us to lead the company up
to the level of success.
GOAL

• The goal is to deliver successful project on time and within budget


without compromising quality.

• Providing the latest IT Network system that helps the Company to


get up to date information and conversations and to improve their
profits and better relations with their customers
OBJECTIVES
• Changing the company from traditional to modern management by latest
technology system.

• Up to date IT Network System.

• MIS system should be installed.

• GPS system should be installed.

• Web Base secured system is proposed which updates information in real


time and without any delay.

• Internal cyber security system

• Input through laptops would be posted on server that can ether push
information down line or store it.

2010.

• All departments will have access to real time information.

• Availability of geographical information.

• Eliminating Deadheading.

• Reducing distance traveled and fuel used.

Assumptions

• All trucks equipped with Mobile radios and antenna which will work with
satellite link.

• All communication will take place over satellite link.

• All the systems will integrate flawlessly.


Risks & Obstacles

• High Cost, risky slow return on investment.

• Breaking down of system.

• Difficulties in transforming old to new system.

• In order to get the people highly skilled/ specialized, training is


required ultimately increases the cost.
