Stage Design of Clutch

 Often two separate clutches are used instead of using

one clutch with two faces
 The advantage of having two clutches in two different
shafts instead of having a pair of co-axial clutches is
the reduction in the axial length of the gearbox.
Schopke Drive

 An improvement on 2-stage clutch can be devised in

such a way that both clutches are operated
synchronously and simultaneously so that the danger of
engaging both the clutches at the same time can be
avoided.
Extended Schopke Drive

 This type of clutch arrangement operates on backgear

principle with three sets of gears and co-axial input and
output shafts.
Ruppert Drive

 It employs two sets of clutches and six gears arranged.

Extended Ruppert Drive

 In this type of clutch arrangement one input leads to

eight output speed.
 Two parallel axes are used but the driving shaft is split
into two parts.
 Six sets of clutches used with four of them are single-
faced ones.
 Gears are fitted loose on shafts except for gears 1,5
and 7 which are fixed on driving shaft.
