Introduction
The solar system is
the sun and the
objects that orbit
The sun is a star and it is
around it.
the center of the solar
system.

The sun is not alone in

the solar system. It is
surrounded by different
objects: planets,
asteroids, satellites,
comets…
Planets
A planet is a large
body of rock or gas
that orbits the sun.
The solar system has
eight planets, including
Earth.

And several dwarf-planets,

including the most known:
Pluto.
Inner
Planets
Inner Planets
have rocky surfaces, and
they are warmer than the
outer planets.

They are the four planets

closest to the sun:

• Mercury
• Venus
• Earth
• Mars
The
Earth

The Earth is very different

from the other Inner Planets.

It has a watery surface and

an atmosphere with oxygen
enough to allow plant and
animal life.

Planets Planets are:

• Jupiter
Outer Planets are

frozen gases. Their

surfaces are colder
than the inner
planets because they
are farther away from
the sun.
Most Outer Planets
have many moons.
Satellites
A satellite is a celestial
body that orbits a planet.

The Moon is a satellite.

It orbits the Earth.

All Outer Planets have many

moons orbit them.

There are also artificial satellites launched by

men used for scientific researching,
communications or weather information.

Other
Celestial
Bodies
Asteroids are rocky bodies
that move around the sun,
mainly between the orbits of
Mars and Jupiter.

A comet is a chunk of
frozen gasses, ice and
dust that orbits the Sun.
